Two things about PPD nobody mentions at enrolment. First, it is one of the modules you can take instead of a work placement โ which is why so many learners land on it late and unprepared. Second, almost the entire grade sits in one collection of work, so there is no skills demonstration or exam to rescue a weak portfolio. It also asks you to write about yourself as evidence, which is harder than it sounds. We audit every piece against the outcomes before you submit.
Fill in details โ we reply within 10 minutes
Because writing about yourself as evidence is a genuinely unusual task, and nothing else on your award prepares you for it. Every other module asks what you did for a resident, a child, a client. This one asks what enables and prohibits your own development, which learning strategies actually work for you, and what your career goals are โ and then expects you to prove those answers rather than assert them. Learners write honest, thoughtful self-help prose and score badly, because self-reflection and self-assessment evidence are not the same thing.
On most components a weak half is balanced by a strong one. Here the collection of work carries the grade almost entirely, so an unevidenced outcome has nothing to hide behind. That makes an early check worth more on this module than on almost any other.
"I would like to progress in healthcare" is a hope. A named qualification, a target role, a date and the steps between them is a goal โ and the outcome asks for the second one. We check every goal is specific enough to be assessed.
Naming a learning styles model and stating your result evidences nothing. The outcome wants your preferred strategies and decision-making methods shown working on a real task. That connection is missing from most drafts we read.
An outcome asks you to analyse the factors that enable and prohibit personal development. Learners list the enablers at length and skip the barriers, because writing down what holds you back feels like admitting failure. It is the opposite โ it is the evidence.
PPD collections often describe a manager who blocked your progress, a team that made learning hard, or a workplace with no training budget. Honest and useful โ and it should not carry a business name on it.
Many learners come to PPD in the second half of the year, after a placement fell through. Priority review lands in 24โ48 hours, which is often the difference between finishing with your intake and deferring.
These five patterns turn up in nearly every referred Personal and Professional Development submission โ and every one of them is about evidence rather than effort. All five are fixable from writing you have already done.
Warm, sincere writing about growing as a person, with nothing an assessor can mark. The outcomes ask you to identify, analyse and evaluate โ each of which needs something concrete to work on, and feelings are not it.
"Improve my confidence." "Be a better communicator." No date, no measure, no first step. The outcome asks for goals drawn from self-assessment, which means they have to be specific enough that you could tell whether you got there.
Result reported, model named, and no evidence of it applied to anything. The outcome is about the strategies and decision-making methods you actually use โ the questionnaire is the start of that answer, not the whole of it.
Supportive family, good tutor, motivated attitude. The criterion says enable and prohibit. Time, money, shift patterns, confidence, a manager who never released you for training โ the barriers are half the outcome and they get left out.
Separate documents written months apart, different fonts, nothing labelled to an outcome, no contents page. A collection of work is graded as one body of work โ and that is the cheapest band you will ever gain.
All five are fixable from what you have already written. None of them need new experiences โ they need the evidence made visible.
Get My 5N2985 Work Checked โMost learners get a brief and no explanation of what a collection of work actually has to cover. These are the seven areas yours normally has to address and what each one is really marked on โ some become a document of their own, others run through several. Tick your draft off against the list; the outcome map comes free with every order.
Outcome 1
Personal, educational and career goals drawn from a real self-assessment of your knowledge, skills, competence, strengths, experiences and interests. The goals have to come from the assessment โ a strengths list followed by unrelated goals fails the connection.
Outcome 2
Your preferred learning styles and strategies, plus your decision-making methods for personal, interpersonal and research-based problem solving. Shown working on something real, not reported from a questionnaire result.
Outcome 3
Analyse both sides. Enablers are easy to write; the barriers are where the marks are, and they are the ones learners quietly skip. Time, money, roster patterns, confidence and workplace culture all count.
The centrepiece
Goals, actions, resources, timescales and how you will know you got there. Usually the largest single piece in the collection and the one an assessor reads most closely. Vague plans are the commonest single fault.
Change
How change affects people, how you respond to it, and what helps you adapt. Strongest when built on something that genuinely happened to you โ a job change, a return to study, a service reorganisation.
Working with others
Communication, feedback, conflict and working alongside people you did not choose. Responding to criticism about your own performance appears in most briefs, and it needs a real instance, not a principle.
Throughout
Reviewing your own progress, adjusting the plan, and understanding why continuing development matters in your field. This is the part that turns a set of documents into evidence of actual development.
Send what you have with the brief. Every area comes back marked covered, partly covered or missing, with what each one still needs to meet its outcome.
Send whatever exists tonight and the audit is back tomorrow, ranked by outcome. No account, no payment until you see the price.
The collection, individual pieces, your development plan, or just the brief. Half-finished is more useful than complete โ there is still time to change the shape.
You receive a fixed quote and a timeframe before agreeing to anything. One piece or the whole collection, priced upfront either way.
A care worker's development plan and a business learner's are judged against different expectations. Your work goes to someone from your own sector.
Every piece mapped to an outcome. Goals tested for specificity, learning styles for application, barriers for honesty, the plan for measurable actions. Anonymity checked, sources verified.
A fix list ranked by which outcomes are unevidenced. You make every change. Follow-up questions cost nothing.
A development plan is only assessable if it is realistic for your sector, so the reader has to know what progression actually looks like where you work. Every reviewer holds a qualification in their field, has at least five years in it in Ireland, and is benchmarked on sample reviews before a single learner draft reaches them. One who has read fifty care-sector plans knows in a paragraph whether yours is achievable โ and whether the barrier you left out is the one that matters.
"A goal without a date is a wish. Add the qualification, the setting and the year and the same sentence becomes evidence."
"Care workers write plans that ignore the roster. If your barrier is night shifts, say so โ that honesty is the outcome, not a weakness."
"Responding to criticism is a named outcome. Everyone writes that they welcome feedback. Almost nobody gives an actual example."
"Writing about yourself in a second language is the hardest thing on this module. Plain sentences score better than ambitious ones."
Fifteen, at NFQ Level 5 โ plus five more figures worth knowing before you start. Taken from the QQI component listing and typical assessment briefs. Some providers pair the collection with a second element, so confirm your own split against your brief.
Your personal development plan is the largest single piece in the collection and the one an assessor reads most closely. Six elements decide whether it scores or reads like a new year's resolution โ the table shows each one weak and strong, and the six rules below turn your existing draft into the stronger version.
| Element | What weak looks like | What earns the mark |
|---|---|---|
| The goal | "Improve my communication skills" | "Lead the Tuesday handover unaided by the end of March" |
| The evidence behind it | Chosen because it sounded useful | Chosen because your self-assessment identified it as a gap |
| The actions | "Practise more, ask for feedback" | Three named steps, in order, each with a person or resource attached |
| The resources | Not mentioned | Who you need, what it costs, what time it takes, who approves it |
| The timescale | "Over the next year" | A date per action, with a review point in between |
| Knowing you got there | "I will feel more confident" | Something observable โ a task done unaided, a certificate, a signed-off shift |
Every goal should trace back to something you identified about yourself. Goals that appear from nowhere break the outcome chain.
A plan that ignores your roster, your budget or your childcare is not realistic, and assessors know it. Naming the obstacle strengthens the plan.
Each goal needs actions someone else could follow. "Ask my supervisor to observe one handover in March" is an action. "Improve" is not.
Realistic beats ambitious. A plan promising four qualifications in a year reads as unconsidered rather than motivated.
Ongoing review is named in the outcomes. A plan with no point where you check progress is missing a criterion outright.
Role titles rather than names, no employer, no colleague identified โ especially in the sections about what held you back.
Personal and Professional Development sits in a module pool alongside Work Experience and Work Practice on many validated Level 5 programmes, which is why so many learners meet it unexpectedly.
On many Level 5 programmes, 5N2985 sits in a three-module pool with Work Experience and Work Practice. If a placement fell through or was never available to you, this is often the route your provider offers instead.
Your development plan should reflect real progression routes in Irish care โ Level 6, supervisory roles, nursing applications โ and real barriers like shift patterns and release for training.
Continuing professional development is part of the professional expectation in this sector, so your CPD section can be grounded in real requirements rather than invented intentions.
Taken on its own by people returning to education, changing direction, or building credits. A valid Level 5 qualification, and one of the few components you can complete without a workplace at all.
Personal and Professional Development exists at Level 6 as well, and the shift is real. Description of your own development is no longer enough; you have to evaluate it and justify the choices you made.
5N2985 rarely arrives alone. These are the components learners most often send alongside it.
Five checks aimed at exactly how PPD collections lose marks, priced separately at โฌ84 and charged at nothing. You get all five on every order, with no premium tier above them and nothing sold as an add-on.

A learner who switched to PPD in February with no idea what it involved, and the two fixes that took her from a borderline pass to a Distinction.
N.A.'s work placement fell through in January and her provider moved her onto 5N2985 instead. She had six weeks, no idea what a collection of work was, and a first draft that read โ in her own words โ "like a diary of feelings". Every piece was honest and none of it was evidence.
Her goals were all unmeasurable โ improve confidence, communicate better, be more organised. Her learning styles section reported a questionnaire result and stopped there. The barriers outcome listed only things that helped her. And her development plan had no dates, no resources and no review point, so three criteria had nothing to attach to. Separately, her employer and her manager were named on four pages, including beside a complaint about never being released for training.
She rewrote three goals with dates and measures, added the barriers she had been avoiding, rebuilt the plan with actions and review points, and anonymised throughout. Distinction. โ
Distinction, submitted on time with her original intake. No new material gathered โ the same content, made assessable.
A marked-up copy, a piece-to-outcome table and a ranked fix list. Four anonymised examples showing the finding, the fix and the band movement.
What the review found:Two pages on supportive family, a good tutor and personal motivation. Nothing at all on what got in the way, in answer to a criterion naming both.
The fix supplied:Four barriers she had already mentioned in passing elsewhere โ shift patterns, cost, travel and confidence โ and where each belonged.
Indicative band:Half a criterion recovered, worth roughly a band overall.
What the review found:A model named, a result reported, and no evidence anywhere of that preference applied to an actual task or decision.
The fix supplied:Two tasks already described in his collection where his stated preference visibly shaped how he approached them, with the wording to make the link.
Indicative band:Not evidenced to met, from around 250 added words.
What the review found:The employer, the branch and the manager named on four pages, including in a passage about never being released for training.
The fix supplied:Role-title replacements that kept the barrier evidence completely intact while removing every identifying detail.
Indicative band:No grade change โ a real problem removed before it reached anyone.
Decide for yourself. Six learners below โ a placement that fell through, three unmeasurable goals, a barriers section with no barriers, a learning styles quiz that went nowhere, a named manager, and one person who thought PPD would be the easy option. Each says what changed.
"My placement fell through in January and I got moved onto PPD with six weeks left. First draft was a diary of feelings. Nobody had told me a collection of work is a set of assessed pieces."
"All my goals were things like 'improve confidence'. Got shown how to turn one into a date and a measure, and the other two took ten minutes each after that."
"I'd only written about the things that helped me. Felt wrong to write down that my roster made study nearly impossible. Turns out that was exactly the outcome I was missing."
"Did the learning styles quiz, wrote down my result, thought that was the section done. Was shown two tasks in my own work where the preference actually showed up. Whole outcome fixed."
"I'd named my manager next to a line about never being let go on training. Still work there. Very glad someone read it properly before I handed it in."
"Picked PPD because it sounded easier than a placement. It isn't easier, it's just different โ writing about yourself as evidence is genuinely hard. Glad I found that out in week two."
Send one piece or the whole collection. These are entry prices. An exact figure follows within ten minutes, and payment comes after you have seen it.

A development plan is only credible if it matches real progression in your own field. These are the sectors most PPD collections reach us from.
The clearest progression routes of any sector โ Level 6, supervisory posts, nursing applications โ which makes goal-setting straightforward. Your honest barriers are usually roster patterns and release for training, and naming them strengthens the plan.
Continuing professional development is a genuine expectation here, so your CPD section can rest on real sector requirements. Room leader and Level 6 ELC routes make credible, dated goals.
Strongest for the decision-making and interpersonal outcomes, because your working day supplies examples. Weakest for barriers, since office learners often feel they have none worth writing down.
The most natural fit for this module. Change, transition and self-assessment are all live questions for you rather than hypothetical ones โ and that shows in the writing, in a good way.
Where technique confusion is highest, because there is no classroom to ask in. If your only guidance is a PDF brief, an early check before you write is the best value available to you.
ETB, PLC college, private provider or fully online โ 5N2985 is assessed against the same component specification everywhere in Ireland.
